A Virtual Tasting Giveaway, Plus New Case of the Month

Virtual Wine Tasting Giveaway

Hello December! We are getting into the holiday spirit over here and want to bring you a fun giveaway! When COVID hit last spring, we weren't quite sure what we were going to do. Friday nights weren't the same without seeing all of you at our weekly wine tastings. So, we got creative and went virtual with the launch of "Hey, What's That Guy Drinking?".

We've had such a great time bringing you delicious new wines each week live on Facebook. We decided to make it even more fun by giving one lucky person a $25 gift card and a Portland Bottle Shop hat!

To enter, all you have to do is purchase the weekly tasting 3-pack of wine and then join us live Friday at 5 pm on our Facebook page. The giveaway will run from December 2 - December 18. We will announce the winner at the end of the live tasting on Friday, December 18.

The more tasting packs you buy, the more chances you have to wine... I mean win.

December Case of the Month

The December Case of the Month focuses on celebratory holiday wines, staff favorites, and new arrivals. There are two bottles of bubbles to help you ring in New Years' and Christmas, a couple of standout reds from southern Italy, and a few of our favorite food friendly whites. Lots of fun pick's this month as we barrel through the end of 2020. We hope you enjoy the selections!

Here are the details

Sparkling

(France) Louis de Grenelle ‘Platine’ Brut
Grapes: Blend of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc

Notes: Consistently a staff favorite bottle of bubbles since we brought it into the shop a couple of years ago. Wonderfully ripe yellow fruit and balanced, fresh acidity. A celebratory crowd-pleaser, indeed.

(Spain) Flama Roja Cava Brut Rose
Grapes: Blend of Macabeo and Xarello

Notes: Fruity but dry pink bubbles from Spain. Lovely ripe red fruit, absolutely gulpable. Great brunch bubbles!

Whites

(Oregon) 2019 Little Wing Blanc
Grapes: 100% Pinot Blanc

Notes: Another long-time staff fav from the Willamette Valley. Excellent mineral drivel white with rounded edges. Perfect cold weather white.

(Italy) 2019 Ercole Bianco 1L
Grapes: Blend of Cortese, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc

Notes: An easy-drinking liter of white table wine from Northern Italy. Pairs easily with a broad range of dinner fare. It over performs for the price!

(France) 2015 Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine
Grapes: 100% Muscadet

Notes: Lean, mineral-driven white. Aromas of wet stones with surprisingly zippy citrus notes from the Loire valley. A perfect pairing for shellfish or white fish.

(Spain) 2019 Vina Clavidor Cepas Viejas
Grapes: 100% Verdejo

Notes: Asian pear, lime zest, and a nice mouth weight for this fantastic Spanish value wine.

Reds

(Italy) 2017 Tascante Ghiaia Nera
Grapes: 100% Nerello Mascalese

Notes: Dark, fragrant, earthy, and integrated tannins from Mt. Etna in Sicily. A complex yet cozy Italian red to enjoy on the couch while warming up by the fire.

(Italy) 2018 Scala Rosso
Grapes:100% Gagliopo

Notes: Very cool, if not a touch esoteric, Italian red from Calabria in Southern Italy. Dense black and blueberry fruit, distinctive spicy aromas, and a light amaro finish.

(Washington) 2016 Hirlinger' Stateline Red'
Grapes: Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot

Notes: Classic jammy, fruit-forward Washington red, with hints of vanilla bean and cherry marmalade. It would pair very well with Steak and Potatoes with all the Fixin's.

(Oregon) 2016 Raylee Willamette Valley
Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir

Notes: An excellent new arrival in our shop. This PN is a straight shooter- red tart fruit, layered earthy mid-palate- it's what you want out of a WV pinot.

(Spain) 2017 Rondan Rioja Crianza
Grapes: 100% Tempranillo

Notes: Another PBS classic pick- the Rondan Rioja has been a favorite staff pick for years. Tangy black fruit, leather, and balanced tannic structure.

(France) 2018 Lunar Apoge
Grapes: Blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault

Notes: Organic, biodynamic, sustainably farmed wine from the Cotes du Rhone in Southern France. Surprisingly fresh blue fruit, with a pleasantly firmly structured finish. Great burger wine!
